Who is your superintendent pick?

In today’s Sanford Herald, I wrote a story detailing what’s happened so far in the Lee County Schools superintendent search and what is still to come.

To catch up quickly, here is a rundown:

  • The post has been open since Jim McCormick resigned June 30 amid allegations of “immoral conduct.”
  • Former school principal Gary Jackson has been serving in the post in the interim.
  • Public comment in August helped compile a list of qualities a new superintendent should have. That list includes traits such as being open minded to new ideas, honest, communicative and a good business person.
  • A 16-member superintendent search committee had the task of whittling down applications. Twenty-six were received and about 12 were semi-finalists. They had to record DVDs answering questions to the committee, who then chose the five finalists.
  • Public meet and greets have been held with all five finalists during the past three weeks. The final candidate visited Wednesday. The Board of Education also has interviewed all candidates privately.
  • It’s now up to the board to decide. The board will deliberate at its meeting Tuesday, and then negotiate with the person they want. The announcement is expected Dec. 18.

So who do you think should be Lee County’s next superintendent? I’m including links to The Herald’s published Q&As, and you can also read past blogs here (under the education category) that detail what the finalists said at their meet and greets. Let us know why you think that under the comments section.
